On the Vine
Artistic Director Carl Vine inspires this month...
Fertile Ground
It’s easy to imagine that every young child who learns a musical instrument harbours, at some point in their lives, vivid fantasies of becoming an internationally famous virtuoso. Only a small proportion of them, naturally enough, will ever develop the high level of skill required to succeed in such a rarefied profession, and an even smaller proportion will possess the peculiar temperament that can tolerate the incredibly lonely lifestyle of a permanently itinerant solo performer.
The world of chamber music is peppered with wonderful musicians who have tried their hand at the soloist’s trade... Read more

Strung Out
Katie Noonan, who is running Musica Viva in Schools 'Anatomy of Music' brand new series of composition workshops for secondary music students, speaks with us this month regarding her career and the importance of music education:
Q. You have had ongoing accomplishments in your career, including your group George winning the Best New Artist ARIA, and you have performed alongside Cyndi Lauper. Is there something that stands out as a personal highlight for you?
A. Performing with Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra was a particular highlight for me. Richard is such an inspiring and beautiful player and his artistic direction of the orchestra really is quite visionary. He is revolutionising the old models of an orchestra.
They are a wonderful bunch of people and musicians so that was a very fun tour! I also got to stretch my legs doing repertoire ranging from Purcell, Handel and Britten through to Radiohead and Bowie! Read more
'Anatomy of Music' will be live from North Sydney & around NSW via interactive video conferencing on Friday 25th May. BOOK NOW

LA FILLE MAL GARDEE
THE ROYAL BALLET
With its origins in a work first seen in Bordeaux in 1789, La Fille mal gardée has been staged by several choreographers in the 19th century. However, Frederick Ashton brought the work into the 20th century and created an instant classic which has never left The Royal Ballet's repertory. Funny and touching, La Fille mal gardée is the perfect ballet for first-timers of all ages, but it is also one to which ballet-lovers will return again and again with renewed pleasure at every performance.
The virtuoso roles of Lise and Colas combine dazzling technique with tiny, intimate details that makes their romance touching and real, while the humour of Widow Simone and the innocent Alain, more interested in his red umbrella than Lise's charms, is delightful. View trailer
