Digitization Project

Thanks to generous financial support from the GRAMMY Foundation, the Meredith and Rosemary Willson Charitable Foundation, The Ted Snowdon Foundation, and the Ray and Bernice Charles Trust, we’ve made significant headway on our effort to digitize the fragile lacquer disc recordings that are housed in the Songbook Archives. We just received the final return shipment from audio specialist George Blood of Philadelphia and are pleased to announce the digitization of 600-plus unique recordings, many of which may exist only in our Archives. Click here to watch a special preservation message from Michael Feinstein.

Great American Songbook Hall of Fame Induction

In October, the fourth annual Songbook Celebration Gala presented by Krieg DeVault was held at our home, The Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts, in Carmel, Indiana. Songbook legends George & Ira Gershwin, Chita Rivera, and Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gormé were inducted into the Songbook Hall of Fame at this black tie event that featured performances by Michael Feinstein, Karen Ziemba, Marilyn Maye and Chris Mann. The Songbook Academy

In July, forty students from throughout the U.S. were selected by audition to travel to Carmel for a week-long music intensive with Michael Feinstein, Laura Osnes, Sylvia McNair, and other nationally recognized experts in music performance. At the end of the week, Lucas DeBard of Lebanon, IN was named 2015 Songbook Youth Ambassador. Lucas has already performed at the Kennedy Center, and is scheduled to appear with Michael at Feinstein’s/54 Below this December and with previous Songbook Academy winners at Carnegie Hall in February 2016. 2015 finalist Taylor Moran had this to say about her participation: “Thank you, Songbook Academy, for the best week of my entire life. I feel so blessed to have worked with so many talented people, and I know I will never forget this experience.”
