After a great experience in a new location last season, this year’s opera brunches will be held at the Sutton Place Hotel. Join us on Sept. 30 for a morning of fantastic food with an Egyptian theme and intimate recitals by the high-calibre artists starring in Aida.

Annual general meeting

The annual general meeting for the Edmonton Opera will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m., in the lobby at the Winspear Centre. Members — sponsors who have donated $50 or more to the opera — are eligible to vote. Proposed bylaw changes, which are viewable on the website, will be put forward during this time.

Social events Storm the Stage and EO Film Series

Get ready for Aida by checking out the 1963 film Cleopatra, which will be playing as part of the EO Film Series at Metro Cinema’s Garneau Theatre on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. And then, with Egypt on the brain, join us on the set of Verdi’s grand opera on Oct. 20 for Storm the Stage, with operatic performances, two live bands and a fashion show.

Sunday matinée performances have been included in Edmonton Opera’s 2012/13 season schedule. For your convenience, Aida tickets are now available at select Safeway locations throughout Alberta. The new schedule provides the perfect opportunity for the out-of-town opera enthusiast to enjoy the season’s productions, or a chance to introduce your family to opera.

Save the date: The Experience

Save the date: Presented by Liquor Depot, The Experience is Nov. 1. A night of wine, spirits and beer tasting as a prelude to the Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival, the event supports both the University Hospital Foundation and the Edmonton Opera. Last year’s event sold out, so we encourage you to get your tickets early, as either single tickets or a table pack of 10.

Don’t wait until the last minute to purchase your tickets to see Aida. Single tickets are available for purchase through the Edmonton box office at 780.429.1000 or online. With a Sunday matinée added to the performance schedule, it provides the perfect opportunity to introduce your family to opera or for out-of-town opera enthusiasts to see the performance.

Red Deer Symphony Orchestra

The Red Deer Symphony Orchestra opens their 26th season with a splash of Russian passion, featuring young Edmonton piano sensation Tong Wang! A sizzling rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, followed by his greatest romantic powerhouse, his Fifth Symphony will be presented on Oct. 6, 2012, at 8 p.m., at the Red Deer College Arts Centre.
