Conductor's Corner with Jeff Tyzik

Tyzik on Women Rock!:

"Women Rock! is an exciting and fabulous concert featuring the music of Janice Joplin, Pat Benatar, Tina Turner, Carole King, Aretha Franklin, and other iconic women vocalists and songwriters. I premiered the concert a year ago, and it has been extremely successful wherever it was performed. Our incredible vocalists—Shayna Steele, Katrina Rose, and Cassidy Catanzaro—bring this great music to life."

Tyzik on Tango Caliente!:

"I fell in love with Tango about 10 years ago and worked with Argentinian dancer Patricio Touceda to create this concert filled with romantic, rhythmic and colorful Latin music. The audience will experience four Tango dancers, Spanish soprano Camille Zamora, and 2018 GRAMMY Award winner Héctor del Curto on the bandoneón."

Tyzik on Movie Music: Out of this World

"We will feature music from Star Trek, Star Wars, Phantom Menace, E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Alien, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. We are also playing a suite from one of the first sci-fi movies ever made, Things to Come. These are all fantastic film scores, and it will be a very interesting and fun concert!"

Tyzik on The Patriotic Concert:

"The Fourth of July Patriotic Concert is always an inspiring event for me. It's very meaningful to see everyone celebrating their love of our country through music."

Bravo! Vail Artistic Director

Chamber music opportunities are always welcomed by the wonderful orchestral players who join us each summer. I always relish talking to these players about their musical passions and exploring meaningful program ideas together. These collaborations can produce musical magic. A great example of this is the first of our Free Concert Series events on July 3. We learned that Emily Levin, Principal Harpist in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, was doing a lot of chamber music in her community, even organizing a series of benefit concerts. Emily was over the moon to put together a really delightful program with her colleagues, and we are equally over the moon to showcase the versatile talents of all our Resident Artists, whether in a formal symphonic setting or at a free lunchtime chamber concert.
