Education @ Hartford Stage announces partnership with the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Program to host Youth Summer Studio Theatre Classes

Registration will open February 1 

HARTFORD, CT — January 30, 2020 — When Education @ Hartford Stage kicks off its Youth Summer Studio – six weeks of theatre camp programs for ages 3 to 18 – on July 6, it will be at a new location specifically designed for the performing arts.  The CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Program on The Learning Corridor Campus at 15 Vernon Street in Hartford has partnered with Education @ Hartford Stage to host theatre classes at its state-of-the-art performing arts facilities, which will help expand the reach of the popular summer program.

“The Academy has beautiful performance and rehearsal spaces which will strengthen the experience of our Summer Studio students and families and gives us room to grow. Hartford Stage is also able to share its resources and programs with the students and faculty at the Academy. I look forward to seeing this partnership forge connections and opportunities for all students involved,” said Jennifer Roberts, Director of Education @ Hartford Stage.

Education @ Hartford Stage Summer Studio offers a wide variety of theatre classes for youth ages 3 to 18.  This year’s roster will feature some of Summer Studio’s most popular programs, including Teen Musical, Youth Studio Ensemble, Children’s Cast and Day Dreamers. Full-day programs ranging from two to five weeks – as well as half-day, one-week programs for younger students – are available. Registration for Summer Studio will open on February 1. Students and their families will be able to tour the new Summer Studio location on Saturday, May 2 before classes start in July.

The CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Program is an arts-focused magnet high school, serving Hartford and its suburbs, which provides college-preparatory and pre-professional arts education in a culturally diverse environment.  The Academy, named a “School of Distinction” by the Magnet Schools of America, offers a program housing state-of-the-art theatres, dance and visual arts studios, music practice rooms, and actor spaces.

Today, we're so pleased to formalize our relationship and to give Education @ Hartford Stage a new summer home," said Kim Stroud, Director of the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day Program. “We have been looking forward to this collaboration for some time, and we couldn’t be more pleased to make our spaces available to Hartford Stage’s families and students.  At the same time, it is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn more about Hartford Stage and to be exposed to world-class theatre right here in our own neighborhood.”
