The complimentary EO Film Series returns on Wednesday at Metro Cinema's Garneau Theatre, with a screening of The Sound of Music. Similar to the popular Julie Andrews' film, our second production of the 2013/14 season also features Viennese culture, accompanied by catchy waltzes and polkas. Join us for The Sound of Music, starting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 8 at Metro Cinema's Garneau Theatre (admission is free) and then continue the experience with Die Fledermaus, opening Feb. 1 at the Jubilee Auditorium.
If your New Year's resolution was to learn more about opera, a great place to start is with the upcoming Opera 101 in the Ledcor Theatre at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Jan. 15, 7 p.m. Moderated by repetiteur Leanne Regehr, the Die Fledermaus panel discussion features four panelists (bios can be found here) — Dr. James DeFelice, Stewart Lemoine, Dr. Joseph Patrouch and Dr. Franz A.J. Szabo — with expertise in drama, theatre, and Austrian and Habsburgs' history and culture. Admission is free, but please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
