There's nothing like an operatic surprise to make dad's day even more memorable, especially when each of our 2016/17 productions features strong father figures!

Call our box office at 780.429.1000 or visit us at 15230-128 Ave, and inquire about Edmonton Opera gift certificates, available in various denominations for your gifting convenience. This is truly dad's year at the opera!

In Puccini's Turandot, when princess Turandot is tempted to break her promise to prince Calaf, Emperor Altoum steps in and reminds his daughter of the importance of honouring her vows.

Epic gifts for Dad

Cinderella's stepfather, the effervescent, overbearing, and aptly named Don Magnifico, is her primary obstacle to finding true love with the prince. Don Magnifico is comically loud, obnoxious, and invents ridiculous stories to explain away Cinderella's absence from the royal ball. In typical dad fashion, he is the source of both comedy and trouble in Rossini's Cinderella.

Arguably the most influential father this season, however, is one who never even appears on stage. Strauss's Elektra is based entirely on its protagonist's obsession with avenging her father Agamemnon's murder. Elektra's love for her father is all-consuming, and she does not hesitate to pursue his killer, even though that happens to be her mother Klytämnestra.

With families being a central focus of this year's shows, it's time to start planning your own family night out at the opera! Season tickets are now on sale, starting at just $99. Call our box office at 780.429.1000 or visit edmontonopera.com to get the best seats today!
