A summer of success

Our sixth season at Wormsley was wonderfully well received and we look forward to next year with optimism and excitement as we grow to four opera productions as well as producing our specially commissioned community piece by Roxanna Panufnik.

This month we offer you the chance to see our Eugene Onegin online in the comfort of your own home, and bring news from our busy Learning & Participation team.

Eugene Onegin on Opera Platform

We are delighted to share Michael Boyd's acclaimed production of Eugene Onegin with an international audience. Access is free on Opera Europa's Opera Platform, the place to watch productions from Europe's most prestigious opera houses from the comfort of your own home. It can also be accessed at BBC Arts Online, with both streams live until December. A perfect way to spend an autumnal evening with friends!

Garsington Youth Opera Company performs

At the beginning of August, over 60 young people took part in a week of intense rehearsal, culminating in a performance on the main stage at Wormsley in front of an audience of friends and family, accompanied by the local Youth Orchestra. Read about their recent appearance in Covent Garden and what they enjoy most about this fantastic opportunity.

The excitement of a first opera visit!

In July our understudy cast of Eugene Onegin performed the full length opera to spellbound secondary school children who had explored the themes through introductory workshops. The excitement was as great on the stage as it was in the packed auditorium. Here they share their thoughts on their first experience of live opera.

OperaFirst - Primaries Project

Throughout June and July local primary school children took part in creative workshops to discover Haydn's Creation. The grand-scale project finished with a performance at Cressex School bringing together eight different schools. The children also had the opportunity to see the Rambert dancers and Garsington soloists and chorus in their final rehearsal at Wormsley. The result was just as wonderful as the secondary school Eugene Onegin project.

Thank you from the Stokenchurch Scouts

The Scouts in their red T-shirts are very much a part of the Wormsley experience. We are grateful to them for their hard work during the season helping patrons to transport their bags and picnics to their table whatever the weather. They in turn would like to thank Garsington Opera patrons for their generous tips which this year raised an incredible £8000.
