Soundasaurus
November 15-17
CONTEST: If you've walked through the +15 level of EPCOR CENTRE recently, chances are you've heard Tona Walt Ohama's Multiambient playing through the corridor, a flexible, original composition with no set duration that evolves over the multiple speakers.
To kick off the Soundasaurus Festival of Multimedia Sound Arts, we're giving away an exact copy of the installation to document this variation of the project. 15 tracks equals 15 hours of material from 15 speakers in the +15. We'll announce the winner, you guessed it, on November 15th, the first day of the festival!
To enter, email info@epcorcentre.org with a link to your favourite sound piece, or one you've composed yourself!
Be sure to check out the line-up for this year's festival, from Edmonton's MUGBAIT, Baltimore's Matmos, Montreal's Nimalan Yoganathan to a number of free interactive sound installations.

National Geographic Live
2012-2013
National Geographic Live kicks off its second season at EPCOR CENTRE this month with Extreme Cave Diving with Kenny Broad. Additional tickets just released!
Due to popular demand, we have added an extra show for Deep Sea Exploration with Robert Ballard on Monday, February 4. Famous for his discovery of the Titanic shipwreck, Ballard will share details and engaging photographs from his latest adventures below the surface in a realm which we know less about than the moon.
Did you know:
After reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, deep sea explorer Robert Ballard named his research vessel after Captain Nemo's Nautilus.
Aside from the Titanic, Ballard has also discovered the shipwreck of German battleship Bismarck, the RMS Lusitania and John F. Kennedy's PT-109.
Watch this video of Ballard contemplating how to paint the Titanic:

Visual Arts
Artist reception
EPCOR CENTRE’s Upper Centre Court
November 1, 5-8 pm
EPCOR CENTRE is pleased to present the following visual artists this month:
Bee Kingdom - Mythopoets: This Calgary-based artist collective includes artists Ryan Marsh Fairweather, Kai Scholefield, Tim Belliveau and Phillip Bandura who focus on conceptual glassmaking rather than functional glassware.
John Osborne - Lines for Clarinet: Osborne's film attempts to rise above its minimal graphics of dots and lines to evoke the emotions of the original music track.
Janna-Marynn Brunnen - Little Heart: A short that examines what happens when love doesn’t last forever through traditional and experimental animation methods incorporating still photographs of original paintings.
Gabriel Staples - Mediation/Degradation/Transformation: In his video work, Staples mediates between what is lost during the processes of editing, reproduction and manipulation to discover what is actually gained.
Visit EPCOR CENTRE to see these dynamic works.
