Student Highlight:  Caleb Gallentine

NC State Junior Majoring in Aerospace Engineering & Woodshop Attendant

Caleb Gallentine (NC State Student)

Caleb Gallentine

"As a student in Aerospace Engineering I constantly need to study for tests and work on homework assignments.  Every now and then I feel a bit overwhelmed and like to enjoy a relaxing evening away from all of my work, so I come to the Crafts Center to do woodworking or pottery.  These activities help me to relax and be creative.  This is one of the only places on campus that I can really be creative and work with my hands and even get a little dirty.

"Recently, I have made a few small projects in the woodshop, such as a set of cutting boards for myself and a pizza peel for my dad for Father’s Day.  I am also currently working on a mahogany hall table for my mom, though this project will take a bit longer.  I recently started learning to do pottery with my girlfriend and we are enjoying ourselves very much.  I have made a few new mugs for me and my family and a vase for my girlfriend.  Crafting is very rewarding because you work so hard at something, you put so much into it and you know that it is yours and there isn’t anything else exactly like it in the world.

"The Crafts Center has become my home away from home – a place that I can feel relaxed and welcome.  I have made a lot of friends and have had many good times.  My girlfriend and I have learned many things and have enjoyed being a part of the Crafts Center so much.  I would like to say thank you to everyone at the Crafts Center for all of your support and encouragement throughout the years."   --Caleb Gallentine

We Need Your Help!

Pinhole Camera Containers

We need little boxes!  Lots and lots of little boxes!

Open to everyone, this year's Pinhole Camera Challenge will be the best ever and we need lots of "good" small boxes and metal tins.  Oatmeal containers, cookie tins with lids, peanut cans with lids -- containers where light doesn't pass through the walls (no thin or transparent plastic, please).

Please save up and drop them off at the Crafts Center anytime before classes resume for fall semester.

Many thanks!  All help is most appreciated!

How to Register for Classes

Classes are now online at www.ncsu.edu/crafts, along with printable copies of the registration form.  Registrations can be submitted in person when the Center is open, mailed or placed in the drop slot (in gray door to the right of Center's main entrance).

When registering:
⇒Please read the "Participant Agreement" and sign where indicated.
⇒Registering in person: Only cash, checks, and money orders are accepted.
⇒Registering via the drop slot or mail: Only checks and money orders are accepted; no cash, please!
⇒Please check calendar for registration dates.  Early registrations will not be accepted.

Locker Cleanout

Time for Locker Cleanout!

It's Time to Clean Out Your Locker!

All personal items stored in rented Clay, Photography & Wood lockers need to be removed by Thursday, July 30

The lockers will be thoroughly cleaned over break so your help is needed in making sure they're totally empty by the last day of summer semester.

Locker rentals will begin Tuesday, August 18, when the Crafts Center reopens for fall semester.

Studio Use

Are you interested in pursuing craft through open studio use?

Campus Visitor Parking

Parking Permits
Visitor parking permits are required for all vehicles parking on the University campus Monday - Friday, from 7 am - 5 pm. Parking on weekends and after 5 pm weekdays is free in the Coliseum Deck. Presently, there are three options for purchasing visitor parking permits.

Option 1
Online self-service permits cost $2/day and are valid for parking in the Coliseum Deck.  To purchase a permit, E-mail your request at least one day in advance to crafts-center@ncsu.edu and include the studio you plan to visit along with the date of need.  In return you will receive an E-mail containing a secure link where you verify your date of need, enter form of payment (debit or credit card) and then print the permit.  Place the printout on your vehicle's dashboard and park in the upper levels of the Coliseum Deck.

Option 2
Visitors may park in the Pay Lot located on ground level of the Coliseum Deck.  Use the Cates Avenue entrance.  Parking is $2 for the first hour and then $1 for each additional 1/2 hour or any portion thereof, up to a maximum of $10/day.  Debit and credit cards (Amex, Discover, Mastercard, VISA) are accepted at the pay station.

Option 3
