Half a millennium before worshippers greeted the sun at Stonehenge, a sacred and secret complex dominated the windswept coast of Orkney, 700 miles to the north. Dear ,

What historical events or cultural eras speak to you? Are you intrigued by secret temples or exotic and beautiful artifacts?  From the Crusades, to the fascinating arts, cultures, and histories of Kazakhstan and Eastern Europe, discover something new in our exciting, upcoming World History programs. And perhaps even make a discovery about your own family's history.

Featured Event: For the residents of Orkney, an archipelago located in northern Scotland, it is “a place between the wind and water.” For Scottish archeologist Nick Card, it has also become a land poised between both the ancient and modern worlds and the realms of science and spirit.

Card has lived and worked on Orkney for more than 20 years and has uncovered a sacred precinct once bounded by a 3-meter-high wall of 10,000 tons of quarried rock. Join us as Card shares Secrets of Orkney’s Stone-Age Temple: Ritual and Religion Before Stonehenge and describes a complex and socially stratified Neolithic society.
