Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

Full fibre broadband connections offer the fastest and most reliable speeds available, and the government is committed to a vision of a full fibre Britain.

As part of this commitment in March 2018, the government announced the £67m Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

Gigabit vouchers can be used by small businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit-capable connection.

Businesses can claim up to £2,500 against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can benefit from the scheme with a voucher worth £500 as part of a group project.

From May 2019, premises in the harder-to-reach places in the UK may be eligible for additional funding. Find out more HERE

GDPR - How well do you comply with data protection law

The ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) have devised an online self-assessment checklist which has been created with small business owners and sole traders in mind.

Use the ICO checklist to improve your understanding of data protection and find out what you need to do to make sure you are keeping people’s personal data secure.

Once you have completed the checklist a short report will be created suggesting some practical actions you can take and providing links to additional guidance you could read that will help you improve your data protection knowledge and compliance.

IP Health Check

People are becoming more aware of IP (Intellectual Property) enforcement issues. To help with this, the Welsh Government IP Office have developed a new module to help businesses understand what to do if somebody infringes their IP.

The IP Health Check allows businesses to identify and assess the IP they own. Since its launch in 2009, there have been more than 20,000 health checks completed.

What is the IP Health Check

The IP Health Check is a free ‘IP for Business’ online support tool. It consists of 9 individual modules on different areas of IP:

· Copyright

· Trade marks

· Designs

· Patents

· Confidential information

· Licensing your IP

· Trade marks overseas

· Franchising

· Enforcement

The IP Health Check provides you with a tailored confidential report based on your answers to a series of simple questions.
